Kintsugi Restoration Milan

Kintsugi is the Japanese technique of restoration with gold. Its name derives from “Kin” meaning gold – “tsugi” meaning reunion.
For years, we have been organizing various types of courses to spread the technique of Kintsugi.

Kintsugi courses last approximately three hours. Unfortunately, for reasons of time required for implementation, during the courses we cannot use the original kintsugi technique for gluing and grouting, as we do in our laboratory, because a week must pass between one step and another. The gilding, however, occurs with the traditional kintsugi technique. In the kits, in fact, we also provide a 10 gram tube of urushi and a specific kintsugi brush, specially packaged for us by our suppliers in Kyoto.

For those who are truly passionate and patient, we also organize courses in four appointments, spaced one week apart, to teach the original kintsugi technique in all its steps.

We also hold kintsugi courses as team building activities for companies. During these workshops we do not provide kits with the original materials because the aim is not to learn the true original kintsugi technique, but we organize everything with the aim of internalizing the metaphor it brings, that is, transforming difficulty into opportunity.

Since 2018 we have collaborated with the Brescia association Esa (Active Health Education) to organize kintsugi courses at the Breast Unit of the Spedali Civili of Brescia.

This was the beginning of a project that is expanding on a larger scale that sees us involved on a practical and emotional level. In practice, the participants repair, with the non-original kintsugi technique, a ceramic brought from home or supplied by us, while a psychologist helps to reflect on the gesture and internalize the metaphor that this brings with it.

We are convinced that those who are fortunate in life have the moral duty to help those who are suffering, with the means best suited to them.
